I was asked how long can a ROV last. What is market practice for economic life of ROV? I suppose ROVs should have come a long way since they became commercially available, and how many of them are still around and the ages of some old ROVs? Is it that as long as parts are continually available for replacement, they can continue to be in service, or after some time parts become obsolete to the point where they become unable to be maintained? Appreciate your thoughts.
Good Old Scorpio’s. Wondering what the oldest vehicle that you guys ahve ever worked with? Scarab 1? She must have been about 27 when she was retired to a museum, I believe.
Aye, I think it had had a few refits, and it wasn’t exactly being used day to day, it was an ROV that works alongside a rescue submarine, "standing by" :wink:.
When I saw the electronics pods on top of the ROV I thought it was a variable ballast system, they were that big 8O.

Alot of the gubbins inside the port pod are original scorpio. There has been remakes of the boards, but there are still alot of original ametek boards out there. They must be pushing 30 years. You would have thought that were past their sale by date by now, scary. I have been working the same type systems for the most part for about the last 15 years, now that is scary.
Any old RCV 225’s still out there. I came across one a few years ago on the 7000. believe that one became thruster fodder. Now there was an interesting piece of kit.
