Agent posting low rates

With Regards to this topic for a Requirement ROV Technician.

The rate direct from the client was 500 USD recently the client has reduced its rates for all positions offshore ROV / Diving taking a big Hit.

But the Agent is willing to take the contract and pay some one 420 USD
Should they find someone.

So they are making 19% possible on this day rate.

Every one knows who the job is for apply Direct if you want the contract.
Miss the Agent out.

Currently looking for an experience Pilot/tech:

Minimum 3 years Pilot/Tech experience
Must be totally confident in piloting Cougar XT vehicles
Available from January 1st
Contract length approximately 4 weeks
Day rate $420

I understand its not the greatest day rate but I am working to a budget set by the client and so there is not any room for moving on the rate.

Thank you so much for replying though – I am sure that the people who might have considered this role are now thinking twice simply due to the fact you are classing them as "desperado" and "monkeys"

Some people who have not had a lot of work this year – might actually be interested – so how fortunate that you are clearly very busy.

The whole point of posting was to discourage anyone from applying for the position. I was earning that rate 10 years ago, the employers are driving the rates down as hard as they can. We as pilots, supervisors etc have to take a stand against derisory rates and the agencies that promote them.

I know of only 2 Cougar XT in the middle east one is with Smit and thats over in Iran and the other is with Horizon Survey Colin Gray <c>

But £272 yes I think your better off working in Tescos and being home every night .

Its not a particularly good rate especially seeing as oil is roughly $94 a barrel and even brent is up to $90.

no, but electricians and plumbers are most certainly asking for a good 25 to 35/hour at the moment in aberdeenshire (from westhill to ballater-don’t even think about city ones!)

I would say any ‘experienced‘ Pilot Tech that is prepared to go out on £272/day will not have anywhere near the quality of life, that a manager at Tesco´s will enjoy on a year to year basis. Not forgetting company pension, health insurance, company car etc. that may go with the Tesco managers job and certainly do not make up part of a PT’s package 😉

For an experienced PT it’s a rubbish rate on offer and we all know it. Those that may argue it’s fair, need to step back and see how much profit these companies are raking in and not passing any of it down to the people offshore.

All I read about are rates being eroded. The way our industry is set up at present nothing will stop that. So people will have to get used to the idea.

Firstly,

Rates:
We all see how the rates have dropped over the last two or three years.
The problem with this is the fact that a few shrewed bean counters within a few unscrupulous companies realised that they could get away with winning contracts by coersing people to work for less thereby reducing their overall bid on contracts.

As a result of a few,other companies albeit they may be bone fide,had no choice but to compete or die.

We are now in the situation that,even though oil companies are making vast profits, due to the price of oil,the bid rates are still low and competitive.

I am positive that the bone fide companies wish to get the rates back to where they were,however until there is a glut of work,and are able to win contracts with higher rates,they are unable to offer the rate we deserve.

I dont foresee the rates reversing their downward trend quickly without some say and pressure from the people who make their contract work.

I dont wish to be doom and gloom here but until the people who make these contracts work exert some say in whats going on then we will continue to have low rates.

Remember that agencies too are struggling to make money as the work declines and its no surprise that they increase their percentage to try and maintain their income.

It is the case right now that if you want a bigger rate then you must work direct and avoid losing a big percentage to the agencies.

The agencies will not enjoy us working direct but,Im sorry to any agency reps reading this.We must look after ourselves here ,and if you struggle to survive, then dont blame us,because we are fighting for our survival too.

Hi Ray I can see there is nothing that any of us can say to change your mind about working for Horizon Survey on the Cougar job .

Well at this rate I can see us all working in fast food and Tesco just to pay the mortgage and all the other bills that seem to come at the end of the month .
This is the real world ! ,We are fighting for our survival.However I have been told that 2011 should be a good year due to all the contracts being put back from previous years .

As for £272 a day I can think of many trades who earn that amount and more and there home every night .
As for what Tesco pay I did work it out back in 2009 and it was a fair amount what with time and a half past 10pm and with all the staff discounts best you go and check out the Tescos web site or you can go and work for Horizon .

Just playing devils advocate here but can you list for me the many tades that earn £272 a day shore side please?Also a list of employers that are paying said rates shore side.

Sorry but your have to do your own home work but there are many trades that pay over £20 -£30 pounds per hour from Bulding trades to electricians and plumbers just to name but a few .
Even your local IT man if you phone him your find that his on £30 – £35 a hour so £272 per day is no problem and like I said his home every night .

Sounds like you want to go to the middle east and work for Horizon Survey
oh well have fun .

Thanks for your information its very clear you have no idea about life this is 2010 we are talking about get a copy of yellow pages and phone trades men you will find all the rates I gave are correct regarding the going rates .

Please do your home work and this forum is not for person attacks on its members and please keep the the subject which is " Agent posting low rates "
If you wish to send me a pm please do so , As for going back on the winch please grow up as I am sure the other guys dont wish to see your silly remarks which nothing to do with the subject .

Lets take the top end shall we. £35 x 8 hour day = 280 mmm that’s sounds nice. Now given when I was a self employed electrician I then had to buy my own tools, run my van pay for and replace my own PPE. Suddenly that 280 dont seem that much.

Don’t get me wrong rates are low but comparing our pay to land based tradesmen I always feel puts us in a bad light.

True I was home every night but I much prefer the time off in huuuuuuge chunks and earning the equivalent years wage in 5 months if necessary.

Right got to go the winch is broken again 🙂

Thanks for the input Ray I fully understand what you are saying but thats the going rate for a trades man these days I know because last year my computer went tits up and had to get someone in to fix it .
I can give you many other examples but you only have to check in your local paper .

As for running cost if your self employed you can claim some of it back .But there is no way on this earth would I accept £272 for working offshore .Lets face it as self employed I pay for all my own certs like Survival , Medical and this new MIST cert .

But I am sure some body will accept £272 pounds .
