Anyone know of any firms taking on trainees?

HI,

I’M A TIME SERVED ELECTRIFICATION & PLANT TECHNICIAN, LOOKING TO CHANGE AND TAKE MY CAREER FORWARD WITHIN THE ROV INDUSTRY. I WOULD BE LOOKING AT GOING IN AS A TRAINEE AS I DO NOT WANT TO BE PUT THROUGH ANOTHER APPRENTICESHIP. ANY IDEAS OR HELFUL TIPS WOULD BE VERY MUCH APPRECIATED.

Some guys have given me some interesting diagrams etc.. Nothing hecktic but interesting… I also recon you just got to have the passion to break into the industry… educate yourself and don’t take NO for an answer….

Yes you can get into the industry if you do the course and have flying experience but why do some people think it’s easy to get in if you happen to have one of the four disciplines and no rov experience.
You want a tip stotty1, don’t think for one moment that toon can magic you into the industry with his glory details.

Then again stotty1 you can be one of the very few lucky ones that finds a company that is willing to take you on as a trainee pilot.

Most of this discussion is irrelevant as the general information requested by the OP has been discussed over and over in this Forum, plus a good few obvious questions are already contained in the FAQ section. Simply reading up and searching on key words will fill in about 90% of the gaps. The rest can be sorted by asking specific questions.

The main point is.. People shouldn’t attempt to take the easy way out by joining this website and simply asking how you get into ROV’s.
The best points and tips were given at the beginning of this thread.

You’ll notice that those that do take the time to read up on the information, and then ask questions about specific elements of the industry, get a far better response than those that just ask how to get into our industry.

Show the rest that you have carried out research but are not sure about certain elements of the game and people will help for sure which is something we’ve been doing at ROVworld.com for about 10 years.

I’ll venture that it is easier to get into the ROV industry with a trade qualification, (NOT a 6 months or hobby course!) in the electrical, electronic, hydraulic or mechanical trades than it is with an ROV course and no trade qualification.

What use would a barman or hairdresser with an ROV course, no trade qualifications, except for a course in hobby electronics and an interest in model aircraft but with experience of playing with a toy tethered submarine in a swimming pool be offshore on a work class system?

It would be great having someone bring the cold drinks on a hot day and then on the long trips getting a hair do and some high lights just before hitting the town or heading off to see the gril friend when in port

Electrification and Plant is a Railway trade.

They look after the electrical supply side of the rail system and I would have thought that the skill would be very relevant to a ROV career.
