Hi Everyone,
Hope you all doing well.
Here I’m back with a new unprofessional and despicable behaviour by Dulam
I’ve applied for the post of ROV Pilot @Dulam on 09.01.09 and I got a call from Hr asking for my availability for the interview.
I had an Interview with ROV Manager on 11.01.09 in their office.
He told me that he’ll call me for the next ROV Operation.
They NEVER called me.
But whenever I called them their excuses varied. They told me that they will call me at the next crew change. They even went to the extent of telling me that they lost their ROV in the sea and that they will call me when they get a new one. According to their website they purchased a new ROV in mid April But I never got a call from them.
Every time I called the manager at Dulam he assured me that he will call me once things are in place. The only thing is that he never did.
Now when I called them again they told me that there are no vacancies.I have been speaking with them for 4 months and now they tell me that they cannot give me a job. That too after they have committed to hire me.

Sometimes ops managers make promises that they do not keep and don’t bother to follow up on by keeping the people they have sitting at home advised should the situation change. I’m not saying they all do it, but I have seen this happen before a few times with other companies. Often they use this ploy to hold people in reserve should they need them, but have no hesitation in dropping you of their list without warning should they not need extra people.
Rather than string you along like this it wouldn’t be half so bad if they told you, if when you called, that they may not be able to use you after all. There is no excuse for that type of behaviour and for that they should be condemned, especially after they interviewed you and offered you a position.
For those that do not have experience of this type of behaviour be aware that this situation is not entirely uncommon.
How to tackle it.
When the original deadline is broken and you get the feeling that they are starting the typical string you along approach you need to consider the next move on your part. Either get a fixed start date from them or, if the wriggle, begin looking around for more work. The We’ll use you for the next job response is classic and not enough to hang around at home on.May 13, 2009 at 1:30 pm #23332deepseaconParticipantVenki
Dulam Hire loads of Indians the company has a lot of Indian crew on there books just wait your turn.
.They are mainly doing Diving Projects they have a new Sat system in Dubai been commisioned now and also they have new Charter Vessel coming so it will happen if you keep in touch with them.
They ROV Projects will also increase.Been a Indian is an advantage in regards getting work with Dulam.
But try all the other Companies Oceaneering are taking Indians on.
As you may well be in the UAE go and try OI.Yes they had problem with there Comanche and ordered a new One.

But things went wrong. I never look forward to work with them.
I lost a very good opportunity from Steve, Compass offshore because of Dulam.

Glad to hear nothing ever changes. I once worked for Dulam (UAE) as a diver back in late 90’s. I had to fly myself over to Dubai from UK and threaten the accounts manager for the wages they owed me. Scum!
June 10, 2009 at 5:07 am #23335Andy ShiersParticipantWell there you have it folks 🙂
Dulam is Poo 😀
But if you are not worried about being paid and want loads of experience ( Atleast on the repairing of ROV’s ) and less chance of being shot at or kidnapped than say ….. Africa and enjoy eating Indian food for breakfast , lunch and supper……………………………
What an excellant opportunity for a Greenhorn 😀June 10, 2009 at 8:13 am #23336JL SchnabelParticipantWell, perhaps I got very lucky with them :
I worked for them via an agency towards the end of last year and was paid spot.on every two weeks – not a single hiccup. Yes, it was Indian for breakfast, lunch and supper – but I did not mind this, as I like Indian and the food was well prepared. 🙂
The boat was old but it was kept neat – I will add though, that I did get tons of experience working (repairing!) the sub… 😛June 10, 2009 at 11:02 am #23337Andy ShiersParticipant😆
