We have a thread elsewhere, named after a particular drill rig, but it appears (with more drill rigs heading down that way over the coming year(s)) that the FI is starting to warm up (on the drilling/exploration phase at least) which could ultimately mean more work for some people that use this website.
So, this thread has been started to enable FI updates to be added/discussed.
Also, for us so called ‘Muppets‘ ( 🙂 ) that have an interest in the financial markets, updates can be posted here too.

Drilling UpdateRachel North Exploration Well 14/15-2
Oil DiscoveryDesire Petroleum plc (AIM:DES) the oil and gas company wholly focussed on the North Falkland Basin, wishes to advise that the 14/15-2 Rachel North well has reached a total depth of 3052 metres.
Preliminary data collected indicate that this well is an oil discovery. The company has run an initial suite of wireline logs and this together with the drilling data indicate that the well encountered a 349 metres gross interval from 2621 metres to 2970 metres of sands and shales with hydrocarbons ,of which 57 metres is net pay in multiple zones. The thickest zone is 8 metres thick with an average porosity of 20%. Other zones are thinly bedded and lower porosity but require further analysis from additional wireline logs to establish reservoir potential.
Desire now intends to complete the wireline logging and wireline sampling programme to obtain more information on the reservoir quality, the hydrocarbon saturations and the fluid type to assess the significance of this discovery. Further information will be released in due course.
Commenting on the well, Stephen Phipps Chairman of Desire said, “It is highly encouraging that the initial results from the Rachel North well endorse both our findings and geological model from the previously drilled Rachel sidetrack well. This discovery combined with Rockhoppers’ Sea Lion discovery confirms our belief that the eastern flank play fairway in the North Falkland Basin is highly prospective and that further oil fields will be discovered in this area”.
Subsurface support is provided to Desire Petroleum by Senergy (GB) Ltd and the results reported today are based on the work of the Senergy operations team.
This statement has been approved by Dr Ian Duncan of Desire Petroleum plc, who is a Fellow of the Geological Society, Chartered Geologist, and a member of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists with over 35 years experience in petroleum exploration and management.December 20, 2010 at 11:41 am #29698James McLauchlanParticipantDesire Petroleum PLC – 20 December 2010
Desire Petroleum plc
("Desire" or "the Company")Operations Update
Desire Petroleum plc (DES:AIM) the oil and gas company wholly focussed on the North Falkland Basin, wishes to provide the following operations update.
Dawn / Jacinta Spud
The Company is pleased to advise that the Dawn/Jacinta 25/5-1 well was spudded at 14.40 hrs (GMT) on 18th December 2010.The well is located in Tranche I in which Desire has a 100% interest.
The well has targets at two levels. The Jacinta prospect is a Lower Cretaceous stratigraphic sand pinch out trap with a target depth of around 1,000 metres. The deeper Dawn prospect is a 3-way dip, fault bounded closure with a target depth of around 1,350 metres. The total depth of the well is planned to be around 1,670 metres and is expected to take 30 days to complete.
Announcements will be made once logging is complete at each of the targets or as appropriate.
Ocean Guardian
After the Dawn/Jacinta well, it is planned that Rockhopper Exploration (“Rockhopper”) will take the rig for 1 or 2 slots before the rig returns to Desire to drill a well at a location still to be decided. A further announcement will be made on the rig movements once details have been finalized.
3D Seismic Activity
The 3D seismic vessel Polarcus Nadia has commenced operations on the new 3D seismic programme in the North Falkland Basin in a joint survey with Rockhopper. Operations are expected to be complete by the end of April 2011. The Desire part of the programme will result in full 3D seismic coverage over the prospective East Flank Play Fairway on Desire acreage. Desire estimates that only circa 40% of this play is currently covered by 3D data within the Desire operated licences. The new 3D seismic is required to identify and map the target sands in this play. The priority area, where operations have started, is in the north east of Tranche D.
The existing 3D survey will be reprocessed and merged with the new data to provide consistent, high quality 3D data over all of the play fairway on Desire acreage.
The final merged data are expected to be available for interpretation during Q3 2011.

Desire Petroleum plc
("Desire" or "the Company")Dawn Well Operational Update
Desire Petroleum plc (AIM:DES) the company wholly focussed on the North Falkland Basin, advises that the 25/5-1 well on the Dawn/Jacinta prospect has reached a total depth of 1,697 metres in pre-rift sediments.
Based on preliminary drilling and wireline logging data there are no significant hydrocarbons in the Dawn prospect and the well will be plugged and abandoned with gas shows around 1,434 metres. The lithology in the section from 1,313 to 1,697 metres is predominantly claystone and good quality sandstone with 71 metres of net reservoir based on initial log analysis.
Wireline logging and abandonment operations will now be completed and the rig will then go to Rockhopper Exploration to drill 1 or 2 wells, subject to regulatory approval, before returning to Desire to drill a well at a location still to be finalised and subject to regulatory approval.
The Dawn well was testing a significant fault block at the southern margin of the main basin, some 28 km from previous well control, with primary reservoir targets in the syn-rift and pre-rift. These targets are stratigraphically older than the reservoirs in the East Flank play. The implication of the well results for remaining prospectivity in this part of the basin will be assessed once the new data has been integrated and all post-well studies are completed.

Desire Petroleum crashed again as it confirmed drilling at its 25/5-1 well on the Dawn/Jacinta prospect in the North Falkland Basin has reached target depth but failed to find any oil.
The rig will now move to Rockhopper Exploration which will drill "one or two wells", subject to regulatory approval, before returning to Desire to drill a well at a location still to be finalised and subject to regulatory approval.
