Well, this will either be good – for UK guys wanting to work in Australia, or bad if your company does not pay you the same money as the Australian EBA ROV workers get – UK$1000 a Day for a Supervisor.

    Time will tell, I guess.

    Well an interesting decision, certainly.

No mention, however, of the support vessels e.g. RSV’s like the Highland Navigator. One wonders if there are deemed "mobile units" under the relevant act.

I know from past pipelay projects with other operators/clients that most of the "foreign" ships crews were discharged (apart from critical personnel) and local hands brought on.

One thing for certain though, you can bet your bottom dollar that these foreign guys on the pipelay vessels will NOT be on Australian rates / conditions and that includes the normal ship’s crew.

I feel sure that is one of the main reasons that Allseas keep winning contracts (and it’s not that I don’t respect their capabilities) but obviously they can reduce the day-rate with all crew on 30-40% of Australian rates.

    Cheers

A lower cost base is key to winning bids, but Allseas win work world-wide. Some countries are more expensive to work in than others, thats always been the case. Their a few companies in the world with the assets and capabilities of Allseas and none of them are based in Australia. Awarding contracts, but expecting it to be an almost bareboat charter is a thing of the past. If you want Allseas and the likes of the Solitare to do your projects, then you can expect Allseas to call some of the shots.

The Aussies can of course build their own Billion Dollar pipelayer, fully crewed by Aussies…. for that once a year project.
