UK introduces IR35 taxation rules for offshore workers this is going to be very bad ,, as an expat agencies and my accountant have told me I can work everywhere BUT in UK after april but for UK based guys it will in effect treat them like normal PAYE workers so LTD or Umbrella will no longer work , they will pay full tax , National insurance as full time workers but with none of the benefits .

Long time no see , As for IR35 I think for many years now you could not work via a UK agency unless you were PAYE or limited company even if your were a non uk resident say working in the Congo since it was via a UK agency you were still liable for tax , First problem was most did not had a tax code so you were issued with a emergency tax code .

However from what your saying now they seem to have changed it again , Unless they stop the 90 day rule people like us should be ok , I dont work via any UK agencys have not done so for years and I only go back to the UK for 2 months of each year . There are still many oversea agencys think I have a list of over 540 . There are a few exceptions if the UK agency has a non UK Office as some used the Channel Islands , IOM or Middle East .

Next problem was a few years ago Banks all over the world started CRS ( Common Reporting Standard ) so overseas banks reported back to HMRC its all down to if you live in the UK and have a none uk bank account .

But like I said they can do what they want in the UK as long as they dont change the 90 day rule , But living in Thailand is far from cheap any more .

i was able to use UK company or Umbrella ,up to now , and UK residents will have that option but they will still get taxed as PAYE without any benefits of a permy ,, its rididculous no holiday, sick pay or pension contributions etc etc ,, many guys are planning to retire or go permy if they can ,, but for me its a total no no for UK work in future ,

I have never had any luck with non UK agents thats a big problem .. can u send me your list again but chuck out the cowboys ha ha

Yes I know what you mean had many offers in the past from UK agencys but they all told me the same PAYE or Limited so it was a non runner since what is the point of living in Thailand and still paying tax .I worked in the past for Compass in China + Peru the rates were fine nice long trips and they paid from the states .

Umbrella companys I found in the past to be a waste of time but never had any problems working direct to non uk companys or agencys I never would trust any company or agency from west africa the ones I did work for in the past some were ok like Abyss but Sea–Rov Offshore were very slow I think it took 3 months to get paid .

I received this today from AGR it looks like all the UK agencys are shooting thems selfs in foot as who on earth is going to go PAYE via a agency when they might as well work direct under PAYE .Its goes to cause big problems for short survey work like spud can suveys when your on and off in a few days . This being the case your go onto emergency tax unless your a regular with that agency .

I can only talk for my self and say I will keep working for NON UK Agencys or the agency needs a office outside of the UK other wise what is the point of going via a UK agency when there are many good agencys away from the UK .

most of the agencies on that list are UK based, some do have offices out side UK .

Of, the rest based outside UK most dont seem to be in business any more ,,this is very worrying

Yes the list is about 2 years old and needs updating but there are many all over the world on the list . Due to coronavirus the price of oil has dropped right down to 29$ a barrel so what ever inspection work that does come up there going to be looking for locals and smaller crews any thing to cut the overheads so the companys wont go to agencys this is why many have gone to the wall .

The only time they will go to agencys is when there looking for some key personnel who might have UHD or some other special requirement then they want you to have all the certs under the sun plus have you got a work visa for China or the States because the requirement is in a few days and you have no time to apply .

So overall its going to be very hard for all free lance personnel as for the rat race in the UK as long as they dont change the 90 day rule they can do what they want as it does not effect me but like I said before its far from cheap living in Thailand any more .
