General Robotics Ltd. (GRL) has opened an ROV pilot support and assessment center in Aberdeen. GRL has also developed assessment metrics software, which when used with a ROVolution simulator, can objectively assess a pilot’s performance of key ROV flight maneuvers such as maintaining a flight path and tether management. The software also evaluates core competencies, like the use of navigation aids, spatial awareness, and timekeeping.

Whilst some may scoff at the idea of an ROV simulator others may one day indeed find themselves sitting in a pilots chair looking at a simulated construction scenario prior to heading offshore to carry out a project.
Giving it some thought I can see how a facility like this may appear attractive to the main operators to be used as a training aid prior to deploying millions of Euros worth of equipment offshore.
