Ooo,
first post in this forum section 🙂
Fugro will be looking to employ their next batch of trainees about the start of November and the training course will be carried out in January 2007 in Aberdeen.
Fugro now hae an ROV simulator (which is quite good!) and will be making more use of it to help pilots get more experience before going offshore and during their deelopment.
So, save your applications till then. Fugro are still running their Find A Friend scheme where if any Fugro employees introduce someone and theyre taken on, after 6 mnonths of them being employed they will receive a £600 bonus.

You could make some money here.
I have already put a CV into Fugro on spec and got a reply saying that they will hold me on file untill recruiting for next year. I thought they may just have been fobbing me off. Now it looks a bit more promising.
September 25, 2006 at 8:27 am #7737DivemasterParticipantThanks for that info Rayshields,
I’m currently working for Fugro , different department though , and would like a careerchange .(ROV’s)
I’ve applied with Fugro Singapore and Geosubsea a while ago but heared nothing sofar ….Will try Fugro UK , anybody else hiring at the moment ?

DivemasterSeptember 28, 2006 at 10:30 am #7738dirtyweekerParticipantHi Ray
You still with Fugro last i heard you moved on. New trainee’s for Fugro expect to bored to death by Powerpoint slides and fall asleep during the course as most of it is classroom studying unless this course has change maybe the sim will make it more interesting
Best part of the course is the Bobbin the local bar which is 2mins walk from the house 😀
Drinking Powerpoint Hangover thats all i remember of my course the rest you learn once offshore and if your lucky you may get someone like Ray who’s takes the time to learn you ,
Goodluck traineesSeptember 28, 2006 at 1:39 pm #7739Ray ShieldsParticipantEllo Weeker,
where did you end up, how did the ingot job go? I heard you lost one of the vehicles for a wee while 🙂
Still holding in there, they waited till the day before I was due to leave before they thought they might see if they could make me stay.
If my new job spec. comes to plan, it will be me running the training course in January. I know what you mean regards the Powerpoints etc. the last course was even worse as they cut it down to 50% of what you got. Think the lessons being learnt though, and with the workshop and the Simulator hopefully it will be a bit more practical as well.
Regarding the Bobbin, I believe you were one of the ones who were coming in every day with a hangover – doesnt demonstrate a willingness to learn, just attend 🙂

dirtyweeker
did you pack in ROV-ing or just Fugro
September 29, 2006 at 10:06 am #7742dirtyweekerParticipantHi Sedco
I pack in ROV’s got offered an over job with better money had to take it as was skint working for FugroSeptember 29, 2006 at 12:36 pm #7743Ray ShieldsParticipantAlways the problem when you are starting off in this (and I assume other) industries or when you go from the top of one job to the bottom of another.
Offshore pay is sounds great for a lot of people, but when you consider the amount of hours you have to put in, you can sometimes be better paid onshore!
I have noticed that you sometimes have to leave one company and join another just to get rid of the “trainee” stigma. Staying with a company sometimes means you do not get promoted or get approriate payrises.
Saying that, you quit the job after less than 6 months, you knew the pay when you started. A good lesson to others to calculate if you want to change job, can you afford the paycut.
All the best back at your old place!
September 29, 2006 at 1:47 pm #7744Philip PedlowParticipantWell said raysh
I had to quit oceaneering many moons ago just to get in the bloody shack. They had me on the winch for 6 months straight (4/4 rotation). I’d love to run into one of those f**kers now.
It nearly put me off the business, which i’m sure was the intention. 18 years this month and i’m still going strong. I just quit a treasure hunting company a while back and dropped back to pilot tech, (I was no2 on that ship). You get used to it. It was a question of money and time off. The game was great and the lads were the best but you have to realise that were all just offshore prostitutes and until we prove how good we are in the s(h)ack we cant get the money.
Later dudes.

DivemasterHi Divem,
Everybody’s screaming for personnel. Call / email around AND FOLLOW UP. You know what’s funny / strange I put my CV / resume in to Fugro awhile ago and they mentioned something about their training course. I told them I didn’t want to train. They said I must. I said I’d rather go offshore. They said I must train first. Hmmmm, how much does an instructor get? They asked, what has that got to do with it? I said, Well I’d like to know the pay before I start. A pause and white noise over the line… But Mr. B, you have to sit the course! I then told them that with 26 years of ROVing offshore I couldn’t (in some sort of wording like that)…
October 2, 2006 at 2:03 am #7746DivemasterParticipantScotbeve,
I’ve heard that already a couple of times that everybody’s screaming for personnel , that’s why I’ve sent my resume to Fugro Sing. and Geosubsea in Perth but still nothing so I thought well they must have found themselves already some experienced operators .
Did you end up working for Fugro ?! Who’s hiring at the moment ?!
Cheers ,

DivemasterAh no, not Fugro, that faux pas was a classic… but whoever can afford the mercenary rates I’m (really enjoying) charging. Keep bugging them ALL – I’d just take a chnce and say that you’d definitely get in.
October 3, 2006 at 9:40 pm #7748Ray ShieldsParticipantThey appeared to be mixing you up with a trainee, probably looking at someone elses CV while talking to you. Sounds about right for that lot!
Divemaster, ask your Line Manager to put in a word for you with dave McKay in the Aberdeen office, it is Aberdeen who are taking on. We have already had other Fugro Opco and different department people work in the ROV department there.
Have a look on the company Intranet for contact details and job adverts there.
