Now the divers and data dogs have got hugh pay rises It must be the Rovers turn next
November 13, 2006 at 6:32 am #9005Gina McLauchlanParticipantI think you will find it was the Divers and the LST’s that got the pay rise. The inspection people who work with the divers may possibly get a bit of a rise. However, those of us who work with the Rovers don’t get a look in, we’re still on the same rate we’ve been on for years!

On the ROV front.. there is no uni0n as such so we have to fend for ourslelves.
ROV day rates are gradually creeping up but you need to ask. In simple terms… keep accepting the same rate you have been getting and that’s what you’ll be paid. Get a bit pushy and stick to your guns.. you’ll get your pay rise or be shown the door. In this busy climate that would most likely lead to bigger and better things. Also check out our latest updates for ROV day rates too.. that will give you some idea of where you should be at on the pay front… but you also need to do better than the rates we quote to keep the upward pay momentum moving.

Crappy wind up. I could do better with another overpaid trainee on the sticks. Rigswat to trencher……..yeah that about sums up the industry right now. You’re in it for money, excellent stuff, let me see if you’re posting here in three years from now.

You may have that a bit wrong… I think I know this guy and if it is the same bloke he has been in the game for a few years… has plenty of experience and probably deserves the job.
BTW… I’m in it for the money too. I just can’t think of any other reason to work offshore. So that makes two of us now.
December 1, 2006 at 4:25 pm #9011piedpiperParticipantmake that 3………………..what other reason is there for flying half way round the world in cattleclass to some God forsaken shit hole, to go offshore for 6 weeks and share a cabin with 3 other hairy arsed blokes !

The money is of course a major factor, but it is possible to earn similar money in some other engineering contract work or permanent jobs onshore, depending on skills and qualifications. It’s also the lifestyle freedom it can give you i.e. the time off in between offshore trips, not limited to your usual 30 days annual leave you would get in most other jobs. Also, many of us actually still enjoy operating ( or is that ‘flying’?!) an ROV, at least sometimes. Can’t say hours of pipeline inspection or bubblewatch is that thrilling though. As for flying cattle class to some shithole, 6-week trips, 4-man cabins – you make your own choices of what jobs to do if freelance, as long as plenty of work around that is!.
After reading about the guy who got cerebral malaria, well you can stick Nigeria and the rest of it where the sun don’t shine.Yeah, on second thoughts – show me the money!
