It could be down to the fact that your location, your grade, your experience, your rate or your CV does not fit what UKPS’s client is looking for.

On the other hand UKPS may just want to get a few more names in their database.

    Hello,
I was doing my taxes when I read this strange post from UKPS.
Independent contractor means that you will have to pay more taxes than you are supposed to…for the IRS an rov pilot is not an indipendent contractor…Pasting from IRS web site…

Facts that provide evidence of the degree of control and independence fall into three categories
    1.
Behavioral Does the company control or have the right to control what the worker does and how the worker does his or her job?
    2.
Financial Are the business aspects of the worker’s job controlled by the payer? (these include things like how worker is paid, whether expenses are reimbursed, who provides tools/supplies, etc.)
    3.
Type of Relationship Are there written contracts or employee type benefits (i.e. pension plan, insurance, vacation pay, etc.)? Will the relationship continue and is the work performed a key aspect of the business?

    What do you think?

UKPS has started an office in Houston, they are just building up a pool of personnel.

They contacted me several time since January to know if I was available for work never offering me anything. (Usually agencies contact you saying I’ve got this job, are you available…) I am Canadian with a work permit for the US, if they had anything on the go I would be made aware.

More and more agencies have this attitude where you work for them, they do not work for you… UKPS, I find, is the worst for that. What is the point in working agency in those conditions??? (How often do you see a post in here ending with: the position is filled, thank you for your interest.)

I remember in November they were applying for a job on my behalf in the US for a company with brand new XLX’s. All looked good, we exchanged a lot of e-mails and then … nothing. Not even an e-mail to say sorry, the job did not start or they chose somebody else.

UKPS is just getting too big and treat people like numbers…

Candice, please post the jobs you have like other agencies do. Else just say it straight, you want CVs for show and tell. (We know the more CVs you have to show, the more credible you are as an agency and therefore can compete with the others.) This post, I find is more to build your credentials than anything else. This forum is not here for that purpouse and it is not the first time UKPS does that..

Please respect that agency personnel are having a difficult time right now and giving false hope is just wrong.

    Prove me wrong.

Yep standard agancy tactic.. They love to trawl for CV’s.. If they can fill a data base with CV’s from experienced guys it looks good when they do a client presentation..’ Look who we have’ …. But then instead of representing those guys and pushing for good pay for experience. They now do a X amount of bodies for X amount of money with the company and tell the guys this is the dayrate no negotiation, no flexability and you are ‘all the same’ no deals !
Luckily there are still some agencies where this isn’t the case.. But the bigger ones like UKPS are definatly now little more than an extension of the companies HR dept… They provide a professional and reliable service but they deffo don’t work for us anymore….

Hmmmmm… which gives me an idea. Why not get all the ROV lads and lasses together and stand up saying, "you can buy my resume or CV…." and every time you send it off, pay me 500GBP"… Yeah, that sounds about right, doesn’t it??????

    Reply from UKPS(USA):

"Thank you for your interest in working with our UKPS office in the Americas. Right now, we are currently updating our database and in the process of securing clients. So as of today we do not have any current work available, but UKPS Americas is in the process of lining up many work opportunities. I will stay in contact with you in the near future and keep you updated weekly. As per your questions, as soon as we line up our clients I will email you all the details regarding the day rate and available positions."

Honest, to the point and response within 24hrs. Good enough for me. Lets see how things progress.

Wouldn’t we all want 500£ each time they posted our CVs… 😈

I think the idea is to choose your agency, and tell the other ones to remove you from their database. This is what CAN be done and if you get approached, then make sure they HAVE a job they need YOU for and that your own agency does not have. Responding to posts like this by giving them all your details just end up in hurting yourself along with others.

Think of it. The more agencies have your CVs on file, the more they can bargain prices with their clients. This results in a lower lump sum agreement and therefore a lower rate.

I say let them hang, let them starve, let them beg. That’s how your rate gets higher. Its just economy 101. Offer vs demand.

K2: If you find that it is good enough for you, I am sure you would be pissed off if you found out the guy next to you earned more. I, myself, prefer to be that guy..

Dont let them build their database. They do not create job, the job is there or it is not. When they come to a point where they have the job, they will post it like Subserv Pro does.

    Cheers

    Chewy,

A lot of the older hands won’t agree with you that:

K2: If you find that it is good enough for you, I am sure you would be pissed off if you found out the guy next to you earned more. I, myself, prefer to be that guy..

I would prefer that I see something such as a set, gradiated pay scale for time in service / experience

Eg: Supt. w/25 +yrs./worked on / with xx types of vehicles= xxxx / day
    w/20 + yrs./worked on / with xx types of vehicles= xxxx / day
    w/15 – 20 yrs./worked on / with xx types of vehicles = xxx / day

And so on down the line…

This would help alleviate the "green with envy" factor… a pipe dream? Maybe….

The question to Canadian or US workers only vs the rest of the world was never answered? I wonder why?

UKPS is up there with triton group an investment company, of cause they will be looking to make money, and candidates are numbers, agreed!

But the personnel in there UKPS are same like us work to make end meet, they will find work for you, not now may be later.

As work are limited at the moment, they would want to find younger and smarter person.

20 – 25 years person with mountain of experience will had to sit back and wait like a tiger for big chunk of meat.

Your now competing with European, african, brazilian and Asian.

    Cheer up

Any takers here????? This might have to be shifted to a new thread….

    I’ll start…

    Seecostsky,
Statements such as yours above, have been made in the past, and us older (and not so smrt????) guys with mountains of experience will indeed wait until the company in which the younger guy is working for and at finally calls and mutters something like, "Can you help us out???" We have this problem"…. finish the story any way you like… but it HAS happened and WILL happen again… One only needs to be patient enough is all….
