Here is another training school
Hands-on ROV operational training at Abelโs dedicated global ROV training facility in Crotone, south of Italy
http://www.oilpubs.com/oso/article.asp?v1=8440
http://www.abel.kr.it/ROV/UK/home.html
NOT a very cheap place to go either at 5000 EURO’s
.
Must be better than going to FW though.
April 24, 2009 at 11:12 am #23150rovandrollParticipantthey are crazy…………………………!!!!!!
much better FW………..the costs are the sameApril 24, 2009 at 12:30 pm #23151Ray ShieldsParticipantIn which areas are they better than FW or any other training school?
From their brochure:-
"The acquired competences are documented and signed by Abel in the ROV Personnel Logbook provided at the end of the course."
Who has certified THEM to be competent to sign off someone elses competency! Being a Corporate Member of IMCA does not mean you are certified nor competent to
They also say how ROVs are used in many other industries such as hydro electric schemes, defence, security etc. But then say "At the end of the course, a list of contacts in the Oil & Gas industry will be provided by Abel to each trainee."
No contacts in Hydro, defence, security then? ๐ Good news is that not once do they state "certified by IMCA".
And a good one from their FAQ:-
"Q: is there any difference between Abelโs certification and the one given in Fort Williams?
A: No, both the courses are given following IMCA guidelines, and certificates have the same value."So there you go – their course is worth the same as Fort Williams!

I cannot say in which areas we are better the FW or any other school,
but I can provide you some info on our course. Our price is 5000 EURO โ inc. VAT and 4166 EURO ex. VAT
or 4323 UKP inc. VAT and 3603 UKP ex. VAT
(Exchange rate on the 27.07.09)
FW is 4235.11 UKP โ ex. VAT (from FW website)
To me looks like 600 pound cheaperWe offer a course with a maximum of 5 students and we guaranty at least 12 hrs on the stick and 12 as navigator
The course is planned for 2 weeks (15 days โ 120 hrs) with 6 days on our boat with 12hrs shifts, during the 12 hrs (0700-1900) there are no tea or coffee breaks the ROV is in the water all the time, and with good organization we reach 11 flying hrs every day.
During the practical section we simulate different work condition in the Crotone harbour and in open sea, such as anchor survey, wreck location and survey, structure inspection, target identification with the sonar, navigation with sonar and HPR.In our course ABEL Training Division offer to the student, a Seaeye Falcon with a manip and a Tritech SeaPrince sonar, the M/V Sea Explorer, a HPR system and 3 teachers with a lot of experience in the rov industry offshore and with university backgrounds, in industrial design and electronics.
Finally in the south of Italy you can find cheaper and quality accommodation, very good weather and great food and wine 8)

You have a Large Platform you can inspect to gain proper field experience relevant to a massive amount of work in the Oil and Gas industry plus a Wellhead tree for Identification purposes and familiarization and your certificate says ……………………
Bla Bla has trained for 12 hours on a Falcon and has passed the relevant maintenance tests for a Falcon including Self diagnostics ! 8)
What a waste ! ……………………….. Bollocks ! -
