Hey fella’s, Just a couple questions for who ever can help.

For the U.S. companies do they pay per day like Asia and elsewhere or do they put you on a Salary? I was looking at Oceaneering’s website, they are hiring, but at 40 to 50K a year. Is this the going rate for the American companies??? For the other American ROV guy’s, how is working for the U.S. companies verses the internatinal ones. Beside the fact that working overseas, we don’t pay taxes. 🙂 Finally I feel under appreciated by my current company,(not getting the money I deserve). Others that are not deserving are getting raises left and right. I know alot of companies are hiring now and Its frustrating. But I smile and take it up the tail pipe, because loyalty is big to me. I’ve spoken to lower management but they act like I’m stupid and that nothings going on. Any words of wisdom from you old salts in the game??? Thanks.

    Hi CTown,

You might find once you start looking into the American companies…if they are quoting 40-50k per year, they would expect you to be an American citizen or have a full American Visa that will allow you to work/live where they need you to be. And on applying sometimes if you’re the right guy for the job they will help with Visas if required, or they will say you need the visa first, it varies.

Other option would be to work for one of the other branches of the company in the UK sector or in Asia…not really sure where you are based at the moment, so it’s difficult to help other than the obvious.

If you want to see rates, visit the rates page… ROV Pay Rates

    Best Regards
    Gina

Companies don’t do loyalty only profit. Your loyalty is onesided and they are laughing at you. If you get a better deal somewhere else go for it.

Thanks for the advice guys. I am an American so i’m ok as far as that go’s. Its the salary and working atmosphere I’m concerned with. In you guy’s opinion which is best, day rate or Salary? It seems that pay is higher with day rate. Out of the American companies such as Canyon, Sonsub, and Oceaneering. Which would be considered the best overall (from what you’ve heard or experienced)? Based on pay, work atmosphere vehicles etc… If you know of other companies in the U.S. you’ve might have heard good things about please let me know. I’ve found alot of info on the net, but I can always use you guy’s opinions. Thanks.

    Hi Ctown

I’ll answer one of your questions. Right now, the way the industry is [worldwide] I would say day rate is better, assuming that you have enough experience and will be offered day rate as an option.

I have been Freelance since I came into the industry and will never look at salary simply because companies only want salaried personnel when good people are scarce and the rates are going up. They will offer employee contracts right now because it suits them and not because they think it may help you.

Oceaneering pays by the hour here in the US and so does Sonsub. I cannot answer for the others in the US.
