Hi All you ROV Whiners,
I hear Sonsub Singapore management have completely revised their whole rates and are now offering close to NS rates (converted into USD from GBP). I know because i rang Alister and asked………
Cheers
October 19, 2006 at 5:16 am #7727rigwashParticipantYeah thats what the say, close to north sea rates. If you call 480 usd for sub engineer and 580 usd for the top bunch of supervisors (not all) then they are. Comparing these rates to the rate chart, i think they are still a fair way down on world wide rates. Although higher than some others in asia (but not mermaid, subsea 7, rovtech, or canyon)
i have the above rates from a friend who works there so they are spot on the mark
also there are special rates i hear for those that know the special handshake and walk around with 1 trouser leg rolled up (thats what i heard anyway) also there are people there who get paid door to door, no travel rate and others that don’t. So it dosen’t seem very transparent and also the above rates seem higher than those posted on the rates chart. So it’s hard to really tell what the top rates are.
perhaps mr ROV ooops could enlighten us? (wink wink, nod nod, a little pressure to the third knuckle)

Geosubsea have fixed pay scales for all levels of ROV staff, so none of these speacial hand shakes that always piss other guys off who work for the same company!
December 26, 2006 at 11:43 am #7728rigwashParticipantHi Kangaroo,
Right on with your comments there and accurate figures as well.If those Sonsub rates weren’t lagging more than a little before?….the new 50 percent over 2 years deal really makes them look limp don’t you think. I guess poor old ROV OOOOOPS at sonsub must be feeling a little ill at the moment as he will have to up those rates again pretty quickly if he wants to keep the last of his experienced operators around?
Actually i don’t really know if there are many still there now. Last i heard they had about 50 phillipino trainees on the books at 50 usd a day. I think they keep them on that rate forever and they are always designated as trainees. They tell me sonsub singapore plan to get there own vessel soon. I wonder if it will have those shackles and manackles like the slave ships of old?
i wonder too wether those guys got anything extra like the rest of us over the xmas period? i sort of doubt it? i’ll have to check with my mate as it is always good for a big laugh and makes me feel better taking the piss out of him. I imagine it was the usual extra bowl of rice and bit of dry manky fish, xtra chilli and you get to keep your job.
any of you guys at Sonsub singapore care to enlighten us or post some of the updated rates on the rates chart? as I wouldn’t mind doing another trip down that way if the rates were even close? i actually got a taste for that dried fish, instant noodles and the msg etc .I’m getting too fat on these agency jobs with proper food. Be good to catch those characters at bernies bar, and orchard towers again. They are how offshore workers used to be
mind you thats if rov oops will still have me? i haven’t said anything thats untrue have i joel
ok have to run and check the british pound rate now, kick the tires on the sub and get ready for shift change……….Happy new year everybody..
from Rigwash
December 27, 2006 at 12:52 pm #7729AnonymousGuestLook like there are some people out there there know a lot about Sonsub (without working for them) i work for them, they pay allright now, and they pay all from door to door
Happy New YearDecember 28, 2006 at 12:25 am #7730shamandaneParticipantHi all,
I did don the orange at one stage and the rates were ok, but thier bonus for the loyal slaves was a little low…..
so if you are telling us (deepdown) rov oops has set new standards let us know the in’s and out’s so we can see that we are in the wrong place and all beg for positions at sconscub,
the rumor i heard is that you have to do extra time to get the spondules, still the feeling that sonsub think that no one has a life….. maybe they don’t…..
let us know the full shark tale , deepdown
be safe
have a great new yearDecember 28, 2006 at 12:50 am #7731AnonymousGuestHi Guys
I think its up to you guys to negotiate a day rate. If I want time of, I have told them….. they have never tried to get me out if I say “I want quality time of”. I an not sure why so many think they are so bad to work for, I have been working for companies there are fare worse than Sonsub Singapore.
By the way, it’s a lot more relaxing to work in Asia so I think that ad up for the last 20 £. And cheaper to live here.
DeepdownDecember 28, 2006 at 1:07 am #7732shamandaneParticipanthi all,
alas, it is as expected the rates are not that good as the reply suggests,
never mind…..
you are right in a few things.
up to each to get thier own rate sorted and it is good to have sunshine while you work
