Just a feeler about a section for vessels around the world and how good or more importantly how bad they are.
If your experiences have been anything like mine you more than likely have been in some proper hell holes that are unfit for animals to live in and to be frank unsafe to go to sea in.
I don’t know if it would be possible to have an alphabetical list with a rating system etc on cleanliness, safety etc, comms on board, stuff like that.
I can’t help thinking that the oil companys are make money hand over fist and there is a lot of shite vessels still being used and will continue to be untill we refuse to work on them.
Thats why it would be good so we can look up vessel info before we arrive on-site to find that your sharing a cabin with roaches and 6 mexican divers and face the prospect of weeks of nasty food.
What you all think?

January 25, 2008 at 10:40 am #15594sheep_fraggerParticipantMed Otto is a Italian run vessel working In Tunisia, Very clean vessel. No internet, Has a Sat phone but they don’t like it being used for personal phone calls.
Food is so so, pizza for breakfast and pasta for evey meal. gets a bit tiring after 6 weeks.
On the plus side there is wine and lager on-board that you can have at meal times ๐
January 25, 2008 at 11:03 am #15595SGBParticipantManta / Manta 3 – accommodation on the main floor has communal showers and the toilets were shared with on shift workers (in dirty ppe), if you are higher up the foodchain (Supervisors / Party Chief) they go in the converted containers which are ok. Some cabins (without showers) are outside the main body of the vessel, not a big deal but a bit of a pain. Not allowed internet when it was Allseas run but allowed email on the Allseas network.
Hopefully it has changed a bit now Allseas sold it off, but the vessel had many years of neglect, none or very little maintenance on the vessel it was / is a accident waiting to happen, oh nearly forgot, it took in about 3 mts of water when it was in port once, still sailed later that evening.
Sclub inspected it and declared it fit for service!….incredibleJanuary 25, 2008 at 2:42 pm #15596rovstuffParticipantSheep_fragger

January 25, 2008 at 6:54 pm #15599SubhumanParticipantBacaruda, I have to agree โThe Legendโ is by far the worst ship afloat. Do you still need ear defenders in the galley? I remember the back deck had so much oil and grease on it you had to hold on for dear life to walk on deck. And the water for showers was dark rusty red. Well that was when it was in Angola it might have improved since then!!!
January 25, 2008 at 10:52 pm #15600T-BoyParticipantThe good ship ‘Adams Surveyor’ pretty damn grotty…
January 26, 2008 at 9:46 am #15601sheep_fraggerParticipantAgnes Candies from Otto Candies
This ship was working in the Gulf of Mexico and was nothing short of a nightmare.
Safety was near 0, we had three main engine exhaust fires because one of the turbo’s was spewing oil into it which would ignite.
The first fire highlighted the fact that there was no lifejackets outside of the cabins.
When we complained about this we were informed that under Solas regulations they were only required to carry one life jacket per person so they would not get anymore, while in the meeting regarding safety we asked when the frc was last run. Answer was thats none of our business.
But we were comforted by the captain telling us that 1 life jacket could support the weight of four men. ๐
Next day crew were trying to start the frc, guess what? The engine was seized
Food was dire, cooked by a deckhand that couldn’t cook worth a damn. The boat didn’t even have salt & pepper, ships crew took their own.
No TV, Internet, Email or Telephone, had to pay the mate to use his personal sat phone.
All in all a ship best to be avoided, and this was meant to be Otto Candies flag ship. Dread to think what the others were like.
