the use of slip rings on ROVs

Anyone can provide me more detailed information about the use of slip rings on ROVs? Which signals need to be transfer by the slip ring in a ROV? What kind of slip rings have you ever used?

Most of our current products are fiber optic hyrid slip rings, one or two fiber optic channels. I need collect more slip ring usage information for a discussion about new products development. Any suggestion will be highly appreciated.

Slip rings are required to transfer all power, electrical signal and fibre optic signals to/from the ROV.

The sliprings which go in the TMS need to work down to thousands of metres underwater and hence require to work whilst filled with compensation oil.

Voltages required are usually around 3000 volts at maybe 20 amps per phase for the power. Fibre optics nowadays tends to be all Single Mode.

The majority of sliprings used by ROVs are made by Focal (http://www.moog.com/products/slip-rings/)

Look at some of the ROV specific sliprings for better details of what is required.

We use mostly 3 phase 3kV/5-20A (occasionally up to 80A) for power, 1500V/1-2A for instrumentation supply etc., for simpler systems RS485 is sometimes used instead of fiber (requiring slip rings to manage some kHz without too much distortion).
