First time poster on here. I have read a few threads and have not seen any mention of weather UAV ( unmanned Arial vehicle ) experience would be usfull in gaining an ROV position.
My back ground is military UAV operator/pilot. I will be doing 8 months in Afghan so i will have quite a few hours behind me after that. I have no trade qualifications just the operator experience which include operator maintenance ( having the understanding how the UAV works but not being allowed to fix it ourselves ). My question is will the operator experience get me a look in at a trainee position on its own or would i need to gain other qualifications?
I would say that the experience would help as long as your qualifications and experience were also of a suitable background (electrical, hydraulic, electronic).
Operating ROVs is, unfortunately, a small part of our job (the bit we like the most!). Unfortunately its the maintenance and repair that is needed the most.
Another thing that Ray hasn’t mentioned, although I fully concur with his emphasis on technical training is; the familiarity with the workplace/operating environment and subsea structures.
Do they have weather AUV’s made by Arial in Afghanistan then? 🙄
