Can anyone advise what the stipulation is for claiming back tax for a UK citizen working on a vessels ?
Looked through the forum and haven’t found what I’m looking for. Apologies as I’m sure its in here somewhere and I’ve likely missed it.
My understanding was you had to have been out the country more than in, always be in "credit" for days out the country, the period claimed can be of your choice (i.e. not just the financial year) and you had to have had two foreign port calls during the period.
At least thats what it used to be I think.
Convo with one of the guys here and he’s saying you can only be in the country 90 days to claim.
    Whats the deal ?

Now I know none of you have crystal balls (fnar fnar) but whats the opinion on the long term prospect of being able to continue claiming ?

    Thanks
    Quaich.

I think you are referring to Seamans Earning Deduction (SED). Correct me If I misinterpreted what you meant.

I’ve just added a new post Qualifying and Claiming SED – Summary which may help answer your question.

I created a new thread to highlight it in this financial section to enable others to find the information more easily.

    Much appreciated.
    Cheers.
