Video Recording DVR’s – Which one works best

Dear All,

I am looking into new Video recording equipment. What is most user friendly and reliable? Visualsoft or NetMC equipment?

I know there are several different models of these but what are your thoughts on this?

i am just wonder too if we use desktop and using nlite software with captured video like pinnacle, to record from rov camera.

sorry this is maybe little freakish, i put here cause i already work with rov company with small budget for recording. 😉

For my 10 cents worth…

I have always found Panasonic HDD DVRs to be reliable and cost effective.

1. They are readily available from any electronics retailer.

2. You don’t pay a premium for "specialised offshore" equipment.

3. You can store in excess of one weeks data on HDD.

4. You can edit directly on the HDD and burn to DVD or flash (SD) memory.

5. You can obtain screen grabs directly.

I don’t work for or represent the company in any way but I’ve seen stuff offshore that is really over the top including Pioneer DVRs with Unix operating systems … for crying out loud how many Unix System Admins are ROV pilots (and I’m one myself)! 🙄

Visualsoft is about as "user friendly" as tax laws in the US. I would go a different route. I have used DVDs up until I now and don’t have any other DVR experience other than Tivo. We use VisualSoft and it’s a pain in the a♠♠. You need to have at least one Tb HDD in addition to the internal HDD to store everything. The blackbox video files are huge and if you’re recording to it all day, it will fill up fast. I would be interested to hear about a better option. The only benefit I see to the Visual soft is that it also provides the video overlay. Good luck
