Just wondering why it seems to be so hard to get into the industry when there seems to be a shortage????? There seems to be many people with a good background of mechanical, electrical or hydraulics but seem to be constantly overlooked. Are the companies just wanting experienced personnel?? and not wanting to spend time and money on training keen and eager people who actually want to be there and learn????????

coogan, Looking at your previous posts i dont think you are in the UK sector, Are you still trying to get a start? I work the uk sector and was taken on as a trainee a year ago with no trouble at all. Have you had many interviews? I have had friends struggle to be called for interviews but after a tweak of their c.v.(got rid of all the irrelevent sh1te and boosted the stuff companies are looking for) they had no probs getting an interview where they could then demonstrate their knowledge of Hyd/electrics and all have then been taken on by various companies.

    Hi
There is a shortage of people but all the companies have taking a lot of trainees in. They have to train them, think about it, if you are on a job with 2-3 trainees, who do you think will have to do most of the flying, paperwork, video, fixing things, all the companies will take more people in, but not all at once. (I think)

Yep still looking for a start, had some interest by a company offering me $100US a day and a 6 month contract. Apart from that nothing. I got 8 years experience as a marine tech electrical in the australian Navy and currently working as a process technician at a biodiesel plant for the last few years so i thought at least id have a chance but doesnt seem to be.
