Yes folks you can work in Korea for this day rate!

A recent agency has added a Job advert for up to a max of 10,000 USD a month so bear in mind you might get less than that rate.

The problem with our industry is somebody will take the position. Rates like this will be offered until we all stand up and say no. Not only in Korea, GOM, etc. Internationally. Everyone needs to say NO.

Actually, I think I know this client – have worked for them on a number of occassions and was offered this job a few months back but turned it down flat before any negotiation. The rate mentioned here seems more in line with what they pay locals but foreign guys working for them were on anything between £400 & £1200 a day take home as a tech. Maybe they are trying to factor in the living perks as well but forgetting someone has to be away from their home and family for a year!

Be careful before accepting this one – the project has been going a year alrerady and no progress has been made due to equipment, seabed, weather etc The main contractor is Korean but a Brit company was subcontracted – they couldn’t bury the cable which left the PLIB sub a lot of work. Last I heard was the cable has been damaged so what had been laid this year had to be lifted and when taken back to the manufacturer it was given the cold shoulder.

I’m sure you can get a very good rate out of this but a year in Korea? Um…… hope ya like Kimchi 😆

Stay Safe – and watch out for flying objects from N. Korea ❗

    😉

I believe this thread refers to a post at: http://www.rovworld.com/ftopict-4182.html

I know the company and the base location. Worked for them and been there a few times in years past (on day rate mind you). The day rate far exceeded what’s currently on offer.

In South Korea you experience quite a cultural difference compared to what many westerners may be used to. The base location is an out of the way, quiet area and a road trip plus a long ferry ride from Pusan).
If you could somehow put up with the way they do things around there then the local social life (or lack thereof) would probably get to you in the end.
You’d need to learn Korean too as, other than some of the company employees, very few people speak English around there.

The summer weather isn’t too bad but the winters can be a killer!
It would be a pretty lonely existence as an ex-pat because you’d likely be the only ex-pat employed there.
I doubt if the average PT/Sup would last a year of that anyway.

The money, and conditions on offer do not come anywhere near the mark in my mind.
