I am an ex soldier who served in the royal electrical and mechanical engineers. i did a btec onc in electrical/electronic engineering. my specialisations were telecommunications and control equipment tech on the challenger 2 tank. since leaving the army i pursued an electrician career. due to the lack of work, i was unable to complete my training and am now unemployed. I am currently considering doing the rov course at the u.w.c, for which i would need to acquire funding. Can anyone tell me what the demand for work is like in the industry at present? and whether it is worth doing? also, what level would i be at (for jobsearch) and would i need to take any further courses. Long winded i know but.. hopefully someone can help me. thanks

The companies have made such a mess of the grading system, to suit their own creative agenda, that nobody really knows what a PT II is these days. I would suggest you view that grade as trainee and once working figure it out from there. Those that are churned out of a training establishment as a PTII’s are in fact trainees in my mind no matter what the ticket says.

Ex RE by the way 😉

Thanks for the reply james, much appreciated. I have spent the best part of the day applying for trainee jobs. I think i will leave the u.w.c. course and opt for my safety certs. Ex RE eh, hope the rov world drinking is comparable with the army! Thats one thing i do miss 😆
