The results of the UK RMT referendum 30th April 2009 on the ODIA employers offer have been published and are as follows.
Number of voting papers sent = 1110 or 100%
Number of returned voting papers = 553 or 49.82%
Those who did not vote = 557 votes or 50.18 %
    Yes to accept = 250 votes or 22.52 %
No to reject = 303 votes or 27.30%
No defaced ballot papers = 0

The majority of the membership (NS Employees) in the returned ballot voted NO by 53 votes or 4.77% of the membership.
Frankly to the 50% of the membership, who did not vote because they were too lazy to put a cross in a box, put that in a prepaid envelope and walk to the nearest post box, you have no right to complain if the offer is not improved to any significant degree.
The RMT is meeting the employers on the 7th May to attempt to negotiate for any improvements to the offer before putting that offer to a second ballot.
To the members who voted, it is a hollow victory for rejection and gives the uni0n delegates very little room for any negotiated improvements on the current offer from the employers.
If the second offer is rejected it will be an official strike ballot.
