ParticipantDjassssen , in your own words you stick with Technip …hahahaha
& your entire 20 years in the industry was only a week back stated as 18 years by yourself.
……..ooooooooooPPPPPPPPPPs
Lets just call it a round 10 years shall we.
Enjoy your time on the beach fella.
I know plenty of techs in here who claim to be supervisors & claim to be paid vastly higher day rates than they actually get. Must be an ROVworld thing
Well in total I’ve been involved in offshore work for 23 years.. but the breakdown depends on the context.. diving, ROV’ing or other related work. whatever
I’m sure it eclipses your meagre contibution to the industry..
as for claims.. How could any guy claim to be a Supv without being a tech ? Despite being at Supv level I still tend to think of myself as a ROV tech.. Cos that’s my job.. I have to supervise but that entails being able to lead by example.. If I don’t have the knowledge to ‘fix n fly’ how could I posibly be expected to train and guide the guys on my team..
Titles are all well and good.. but ability speaks for itself.. I’ll continue to command the dayrate my experience garners. No doubt you’ll continue to big yourself up.. I can afford to pick and choose my work and take extended time off precisely because of the time I have spent offshore in the past.. I am ‘enjoying’ my time on the beach.. Not many fellas can say the same…If you manage to reach the same comfort zone as me in your time offshore you will be doing very well..

Participantgreats rates , stop your whinning. Be thankful you have a job, you get your tax back on that & besdies you live in the uk , so what do you care about the exchange rate.
If you dont like the rates then dont work £0=$0 at leatse that parity should make you happy
Sounds like you are one of the guys sitting on the other side of the table. Mainly on this site you find poeple working offshore. If we talk about great dayrates, we think of higher figures.
You might be looking for a site where the employees are posting, there you might find more people sharing your opinion. The less the rater, the better.
Just tell them you don,t have a problem working for peanuts.
(£0=$0)< peanuts.
Most likely you end up with monkeys, but you seem to fit in there.May 12, 2009 at 6:28 pm #23282Anonymous
GuestJames : Not comparing to any other site, I always take with a pinch of salt what people say on here & what they claim to earn, your rates pages are pretty acurate.
I find it funny that guys claim £420 rate for sup is bad , its actually the going rate. ref your rates page
I also know quite a few guys who post on here who make exagerated claims of their positions / their time working with ROV’s & the rates they claim to get. Dont quite know why they do it. Like I said an ROVworld thing I guess.

The original thread was about Subsea7 paying 265 GBP from paying 310 GBP last year for a Pilot Tech what John was been offered.
Of which prompted you to chip in with your reply stop whinning!!!!!!!!.
Can you explain why you think 265 GBP is a good rate from been offered 310 GBP last year then maybe we can understand your comment?
What is your rate after 10 Years??

ParticipantLets just see if people can figure out why SS7 feel the need to reduce rates when they, and other well known offshore operators, are currently posting good Q1 2009 profits.
Given that profits seem to be good, I agree that reducing rates from the previous year, is wrong and should be highlighted via any means possible.
There is a feeling that a number of co’s are simply trying it on to the benefit of their shareholders and detriment of the people that work offshore. Although, by way of balancing that a little I have heard [source withheld] that the squeeze is also being applied to the lower echelons of base staff in some instances.

ParticipantPersonnel are no longer in demand, infact there is an over supply.
So it is fairly obvious that rates will be squeezed.Onshore staff, engineers and contractors are being laid off in all companies.
It is a simple supply and demand situation. You don’t have to be Einstein to realise that the world recession will affect the ROV Industry!

Participantwell something is going on at ss7 – their share value has increased quite quickly in recent times.

ParticipantI always thought that the whole point in a company owned by Shareholders was to make the maximum amount of money for the Shareholders – not to pay more than they need to to staff and agency personnel.
If they can get people to work for that, then they will continue to do it. If you do not like the rate, do not work for them.

ParticipantRay and others thats the point of the Thread here dont work
for 265 GBP !!!!.

ParticipantJust heard today from a friend who is a SS7 employee they made quite a lot of people in the office in Aberdeen redundant recently some were contact but others were on the permanent staff and also got rid of some permanent crew guys off the vessels using disciplinary methods mostly to cull some people .
My mate is a long time served SS7 ROV supervisor, he states that there is now a culture of fear there ..things have changed over the last few months .
Also some ITECH personel are being used instead of contractors on SS& vessels.May 14, 2009 at 3:00 am #23292Rovned
ParticipantI worked for S7 directly and I was amazed at how much crap their guys will take.
In every other company there is usually a regular turnover of experienced personnel but not in Subsea. The vast majority of their people haven’t worked anywhere else and consider S7 to be the ultimate in ROV employers and subsea technology.
I know lads who’ve been royally shafted by them for years and still don’t move.
As was pointed out by someone else on the forum, it’s really quite impressive on the part of the management.
May 14, 2009 at 6:07 pm #23293liddelljohn
ParticipantWell i will take work at SS7 even for less money as times are tough and work is work ,Its feast and famine …next year it will be a panic to get more work out and then rates will rise again.I still have bills to pay.
